Mary, Transition Manager - Houston Texas USA

Mary Transition ManagerI was part of a University of Texas Medical Branch IT support team. We knew our customers well, understood the environment. So, when I found out that UTMB was considering outsourcing the IT staff, I thought it was a rumor. The thought that our organization would consider allowing us to be hired away did not seem real. I began to feel unsure about my future. The outsourcing company was Schlumberger (later bought out by Atos Origin).

Then, I began to hear positive talk about how we would continue working and supporting the UTMB community, that the benefits would be equal or better than we currently had, and as part of a global corporation, I would have a better chance at opportunities that may not have been available to me through UTMB.

As I absorbed this information, I realized that the outsourcing and the potential it could bring sounded interesting. I was immediately asked to assist with the transition of services, which came as a surprise since I was one of the outsourced. This began my development and training as a Transition Manager.

Since then, I have managed a number of very large IT outsource transitions and have had several other opportunities to travel and grow my career.

With Atos Origin it is not unusual to work side-by-side with someone from another part of our country or the world. Depending on your expertise and desire, occasions may arise to travel to someplace you have never before seen. I have had the chance to meet and become friends with so many interesting people I would otherwise never have known. As well, Atos Origin has treated me in a professional manner and has allowed me to work in different environments to expand my experience and knowledge of the IT business.

Michael, Chief Technical Architect, Fort Myers Florida USA

Michael, Chief Technical ArchitectI had worked with the Lee County Florida (Fort Myers-Cape Coral MSA) government as their Program Manager of Public Resources since July 1998. Our group supported 2,200 county employees. In February 2003, the IT department learned of the governments Outsourcing decision. Then SchlumbergerSema (now Atos Origin) was to provide provides network management and telecommunications services including infrastructure, hardware and software for voice services and data circuits. Atos Origin also offered applications development, IT consulting and quality review.

I was concerned with being outsourced but once I met the Atos Origin team I felt VERY comfortable moving forward. The Atos Origin team was very professional. The way they handled the entire transition made life easier on everyone involved. The Continuous Service Delivery Model, CSDM made the process even better. It is based on ITIL processes, CSDM makes it possible to deliver in a consistent manner and present a common interface to geographically dispersed clients. This was certainly helpful with our county geography. I saw the outsourcing project as a great opportunity to grow my career, work with like minded professionals and share knowledge with peers on a Global Basis (AOTC).

Kimberly, Service Delivery Specialist, Norcross Georgia, USA

Kimberly, Service Delivery SpecialistI worked for AkzoNobel – Car Refinishes as their Network Analyst for five years prior to being outsourced. And I’ve been working for Atos Origin for the past 2 ½ years. In the fall of 2005, when I found out that my department was being outsourced, I initially felt betrayed. I felt that I had a great, family-type relationship with my manager, co-workers and the users we supported. I also felt that we were doing a great job supporting our users. I speculated that this change was the first step leading us "out the door."

My initial feelings changed once I realized this "end" was really a "new beginning." I learned more about Atos Origin, and was given more information on the proposed structure of our organization and how this would develop into a new level of support for our customers. I was assured that there was an important role for me in this new organization.

There are many things I enjoy as an employee of Atos Origin, growth potential is my favorite. Prior to the outsourcing, I was primarily in a support role in a department of less than ten. We did all we could to support over one thousand users. Now that we are a part of an organization with more supporters to handle the particular needs of our customers, I have more flexibility to learn and get involved in areas outside of networking.

Over the past two years, I have played an integral part in various projects and management
decisions both locally and globally. Not only do I support the users and work with the team that I’ve grown to love in the past, I am able to work with teams in other countries and support users at other companies in a different capacity. The family environment from before still exists…my family has just gotten larger.

Uwe, Service Manager, Teterboro New Jersey, USA

Uwe, Service ManagerPrior to the outsourcing about two years ago I had worked for Symrise and its predecessor Haarmann & Reimer - Symrise is a result of several mergers and acquisitions - for 27 years, both in Europe and in the USA. My last title at Symrise was IT Director.

Although I had never been outsourced myself, I had seen plenty of change in management strategies and styles. In more recent years, we had outsourced parts of IT, such as the Help Desk and on-site desktop support, and we knew that outsourcing had its value.

We also knew that the change would come with major challenges - and opportunities to provide service the right way. Our former co-workers, and in many cases friends, had always seen us as a free service for any type of IT questions, some as a necessary evil or as a cost factor. To us, co-workers and friends turned into customers. Not always an easy transition on both sides. As contract and service level agreements (SLAs) took shape we still felt that they didn’t go far enough, and we began to compile a Service Catalog, defining all of our services and their cost if they were considered optional. We find this to be an invaluable reference for us as well as our new customers.

During the two and a half years with Atos Origin, I’ve had the opportunity to get to know many interesting new colleagues, many are experts in their field. This has afforded me to learn and become familiar with many new and interesting technologies. The greatest experience, however, was when I was asked to travel to Malaysiafor the transition of our Help Desk - and when I was able to experience an exciting and very different country.

Lee, Infrastructure IT Director, Austin Texas USA

Lee Jr.I worked for the Seton Family of Hospitals for three years as their Infrastructure Operations Manager. I have been with Atos Origin for the last seven years.

When I heard our department was going to be outsourced, I was looking forward to it.

I thought this would be a good thing as health care was typically behind in technology and funding IT services and systems. Atos Origin was able to show Seton Family of Hospitals the best practices and metrics to show ROI and value of spending capital dollars for new enterprise systems.

Knowing that I would still support the same end users and provide value in patient care made the transition easy. Human resources from Atos Origin came down and answered all questions related to the outsourcing. The team was very positive and made everyone at ease. I also read a book on outsourcing. One of the best things about Atos Origin is having the global company work behind me and my team of over 85 staff. This has been a great opportunity to develop my team, myself, and my career.
